Despite the President's insistence that congress pass an omnibus spending bill containing $8 billion in earmarks, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) reluctantly conceded on Thursday that he did not have sufficient votes to file for cloture on the bill and therefore was unable to bring it to the Senate floor for a vote. Following the announcement, Republican congressmen John McCain and Mark Kirk celebrated the death of the omnibus, pork-ridden bill.
