  • you probably mis read it it's probably the first Panasonic camera to shoot full raster. HDCAM SR is a Full Raster codec it was its main selling point aside from full color.

If you ask anyone at Sony they will tell you this, thats why they output the EX1 demos to HDCAM SR to screen even though it's not a 4:4:4 codec because regular HDCAM isn't full raster.

  • From what I was reading, the Panasonic HPX-3000 was the first full size camera capable of recording full raster 1920x1080.. Sony EX1 and EX3 can do that too. Not even sure standard XDCAM HD can even do this. Since HDCAM SR is older than the HPX-3000, I don't think it can do full raster 1920x1080. It will definitly upsample to 1920x1080 during playback, but recording is still 1440x1080 on HDCAM SR. I am quite certain about this. The standard bit rate for HDCAM SR is 440Mbits/sec, not 400

  • HDCAM SR is a full rastor codec it's 1920 x 1080 not 1440 x 1080. it's also full 4:4:4 color over the 4:1:1 of HDV.

  • Not a big fan of Sony consumer products, but in the pro market, I have to say that Sony is very good. The HDCAM format, even though not perfect as it records 1080x1440, it is still great, due to low compression. I believe it works at 144MBits/sec, as opposed to 25Mbits of HDV. That's a big difference. Now, with HDCAM-SR, we're talking 400 or 800 Mbits/sec. That's really something. I believe it's still 1440x1080 though. But that's okay. I take low compression over resolution any time!

  • Great Camera, Sony is the best!
