  • what was that stuff she mixes with stand oil?

  • Hi pues13,

Our conservation department tells us that 'Shellsol' (a proprietory product made by the Shell oil company), is a manufactured Turpentine substitute derived from petroleum. Because it is manufactured it is a lot purer than Turps, which can sometimes leave an oily residue.

Importantly, if you are thinking of using any Shellsol product in your work, be sure to check the MSDF sheet which will give you information on health and safety.

    Best wishes,

    Tate

  • thankyou for this! I love her work and is one of my favourite artusts, Would love to meet her and talk about her work.x

particularly love how she paints great big canvases and slowly adds more and more to them till its a web of extreme, graphic lookalike art.

  • Thanks - we love Fiona Rae too!

  • haha, obviously! Is any of her work currently in the Tate museum at the moment?? Ive just moved over from new york and must take a look! thx :D

  • i love her!

  • I have just been watching a bunch of these Tate shorts and have really enjoyed them. Thaty are beautifully put together and each has had something quite unexpected. Great series. Have just subscribed.....now to look at a few more. Thanks

  • This is just great. Thoroughly enjoyed that.

  • fiona rae , wonderful ,

  • @tate can you tell me how much standoil on 1 liter shellsoil. did de kooning used petrolium in his paint?

  • i love you Fiona

  • @winksie Poetry and romanticism are not inherently postmodern. Postmodernism does not exclude kitch or painting. I'm not sure you understand the meaning of the world. Warhol, one of the first postmodern painters is all kitch. Schnabel feels his films are paintings and paintings films. Fiona's work is clearly of our time, not from the era of abstract expressionism-Rae remixes abex with a very sophisticated and contemporary design sensibility which is fantastic with or without Tate's approval.

  • Interesting to see how Artist work...blimey them oils must have set her back a few bob or two and the rest of the equipment not mentioning her studio...My question would be..do Artist actually make a living from there works? (apart from the few house hold names)...it would interesting to know who decides at Tate if they were to show the works???..and how would you go about it????

    Many Thanks.

Btw.. Excellent video clip..very inspiring :)

  • oh yes Fiona Rae is my main focal point when it comes to startin my final project in art. Her style is jus so unique and that is something that i intend on imitating but i feel i may fail

  • @Lytton333 ....YES! That is what I was trying to say above......
