  • Clams that are eaten, from Long Island to Florida, are scientifically classified as "Mercenaria Mercenaria" or are called by their popular names; Quohog: Little Neck, etc.. In contrast, cockles are a distinctly different shellfish which not eaten but are used for bait in fishing. What you display is a cockle. Cockles are not clams. I dig clams, I know the difference. Florida east coast.

"There is no difference between a cockle and a clam; a cockle is actually a soft-shelled clam. The name cockle is a marketable name given to this sweet tasting mollusk, worldwide there are 200 species of cockles."

  • what part in you live in Florida

  • @xxaznvtguyxx Don't live in Florida, we were there for a family vacation.

  • @xxaznvtguyxx This is not a clam. This is a Cockel.
