@JLJ061 Yeah, that small segment of concrete ties is where the trains collided. The impact was so bad that it ripped up the track (and catenary) and Amtrak decided to replace that segment of wooden ties with concrete ones instead. You can also tell that's where the collision occurred because there's a small gravel road that leads up tot he tracks where policemen and ambulance personnel had to get access to the tracks. they made that path, and it's been there ever since.

7:11 This is Gunpow Interlocking. 25 years ago today Conrail Engineer Ricky Gates changed the face of railroading forever when he blew a stop signal and pulled in front of Train 94 "The Colonial" which collided with his engines at 110 mph, resulting in the deaths of 11 passengers. Gates tested positive for marijuana use prior to going on duty that day.
