Leeds Legal Essay Writing Competition

Leeds Law School has had a double triumph as two students have won first and second place in the Leeds Legal Essay Writing Competition. The competition, which was spearheaded by Leeds Legal, provided Leeds' 2, 500 law students the chance to win a cash prize and placement at a top Leeds law firm.

The author of the winning essay, which tackled issues of compliance within employment, was Graduate Diploma in Law student Tom Royston who has earned a £1,000 cash prize and a summer placement at top Leeds law firm, Lupton Fawcett.

Corrine Manfield, who studies the Legal Practice Course, also received work experience with Schulmans Solicitors in addition to a £250 cash prize. Tom and Corrine fought off tough competition from students at BBP College of Law and the University of Leeds.

The top five entrants, three of whom came from Leeds Met were invited to the prize-giving ceremony at the Hilton, where they were awarded their prizes from Leeds Legal Chair and Leeds Met Governor, Alan Baker. Nick Dent, the third Leeds Met student to have success in the competition has also earned himself a placement with Pinsent Masons.

Terry Moran, Head of Leeds Law School commented, "Leeds Law School was proud to have supported this competition and is even more proud that the winner and runner up are students in the school. Their performance is excellent and I feel it reflects the quality of the experience that Leeds Law School offers those who study here."
