**At the hospital**
[Mr. and Mrs. Jonas were back talking to the doctor while Kevin, Joe and Kristen all sat holding each others' hands and trying to keep back their tears. Mrs. Jonas walked back into the room, tear-stained face, and said that Nick was going to be okay, and Mr. Jonas was in the room praying with him, but then they could see him, if he was up to it. Then, a nurse walked into the waiting room with Mr. Jonas, who went and sat with Denise.]
Nurse: "Is there a Kristen in here for Nick Jonas?"
Kristen: "That's me."
Nurse: "Well, Nick's asking for you, but we're only supposed to let family in, especially with our high-profile patients. I can give him a message from you if you like."
Denise: "No, that won't be necessary. She's family, she can see him if he's asking for her."
Nurse (confused, even she knew there wasn't a Jonas sister): "Umm..well, I thought-"
Denise: "Excuse me, ma'am, but that's my son in there, and he wants to see her, and I am telling you she's family, so she's going to see him."
Nurse: "Okay, then, this way."
[Kristen wondered why Denise was so adamant about the subject. She was almost even rude to the nurse, and that definitely wasn't like her. Kristen got to Nick's room, and when she walked in and saw him in the bed, hooked up to oxygen and all the machines, she turned back around and almost left. It was too much to see, and she didn't want Nick to see her crying; she was supposed to be the tough one.]
Nick (weakly): "Kristen?"
Kristen (tried to suck back her tears, and turned and walked to his bed-side): "Hey! How you feeling?"
Nick: "I've seen better days. What's important is that I'm alive, and that's thanks to you."
**Back in the waiting room**
Kevin: "What was all that about, Mom?"
Denise: "Nick needed to see Kristen, so she had to go back there."
Kevin: "Why'd he want to see her first?"
Denise: "The doctors told us and Nick that his pod hadn't been pumping right for like the past day or so, and his sugar was high enough to put him in a full diabetic coma, or kill him, if he didn't get some insulin in his system right away. When Kristen had the sense about her to give him that shot, she saved his life. I assume Nick wanted to thank her for that."
**Back with Nick and Kristen**
[Nick had told Kristen what the doctors said. And she didn't know what to say, so she just cried and bent down and hugged Nick from his bed.]
Nick: "Thank you."
Kristen: "I'm just so glad you're okay! I don't know what I would've done! You're like a brother to me, I love you."
Nick: "I love you, too. But I have to ask, how did you know what to do?"
Kristen: "One of my cousins had diabetes..."
Nick: "Had?"
Kristen: "His sugar got so bad it threw him into a diabetic coma, and eventually killed him. When he fell into his coma, it looked just like what happened with you today. I just had a feeling it was the same thing. Since then I kicked myself for not knowing how to help him, so I just had to try with you."
Nick: "I'm sorry, I didn't know."
Kristen: "Yeah, we were really close. That's why I get so protective with you. I may have never had it, but I definitely know how serious it is. I couldn't afford to lose another friend that way."
Nick: "Well, thanks to you, I'm not going anywhere. I love you, and I'm eternally grateful to you. I think Kevin and Joe probably are freaking out, huh?"
Kristen: "I've never seen them so scared. They really love you, we all do. Don't you ever scare us like that again, you hear me?! (She gave him another big hug) I'll go get Joe and Kev so they can come say hi."
Nick: "Okay. Kristen, again, thank you!"
[Kristen smiled, kissed his head, and left to go tell Kevin and Joe it was their turn. When Kristen got back to the waiting room, Joe ran up and hugged her so tight she seriously couldn't breathe.]
Joe: "Thank you! You saved my little brother's life! Thank you!"
[Joe kissed her cheek and went in for another bear hug. When he did they heard a click. Suddenly Kevin and Mr. Jonas were grabbing some guy, kicking him out of the room. Papparazzi! Even at a time like this. Joe, Kristen and Denise grabbed the Kevin's and told the guy to scram. Then Kevin and Joe went to see Nick. Mr. and Mrs. Jonas and Kristen sat in the waiting room.]
**[The story about my cousin is partly true. I didn't see it, and we weren't close, but I did actually have a cousin that died that way. Diabetes is a serious issue and should never be taken lightly, just because Nick manages his and can still have the life he has. I may be almost 20 years old, but let me tell you that 15 year old is truly my hero!]**
