  • As a very young kid I used to be taken to "see the trains" in this area (particularly "Wood & Iron" bridges -the other end of Alfreton Tunnel - where sis met her boyfriends from Somercoates !!!!) Dad worked at "B Winning" pit (shown) and I remember 8Fs at the next pit down the line. I've never seen many photos of this part of the Erewash Valley but to find this video -superb!. Unfortunately only 48127 is underlined in my book! -circa1962- 47525 is not even listed -possibly already withdrawn.

  • I wonder where it ceom from?? I wonder like have dvd on it. I always watch it replay many time as i love it. Shame I not there in the steam's year, I born only 17 years after end of BR steam!!!!! I prefer BR year rather than present's network rail.

  • I only born in 1985, I think so last steam on Erewash is in 1968. This year I only know steam is 48775 on ballast train and also 4472 Flying Scotsman on special tour southbound (my dad was stand at Alfreton station (after closure) watch flying scotsman passes by.

  • Again Kris, what year? I'm estimating 1965 with this lot. When dod steam stop working along the Erewash? I always thought late 1966 but may be wrong.

  • Superb. All these bigkris21 videos of a small corner of the vanished steam world are wonderful. I never realised that Nottingham Victoria was so busy. And that one of the Hall fallen off the turntable..! Brilliant.

  • Cracking stuff! Where DID it all go? Funny how it's the little things that you notice now, like the shunters hopping on and off the cab steps.

Rather funny, now, to see 4Fs with the STRIPE showing they weren't allowed under the wires south of Crewe. As if.
