  • This was my first question, and surprisingly it does not break up in winter if it is designed, produced, and installed correctly, and then maintained. Maintenance is cleaning to remove sediment from the surface so that it does not absorb moisture and expand, or block the infiltration of melting snow.

Snow that melts passes through the pavement into the stone layer below and then into the ground, so the snowmelt doesnt re-freeze on the surface, or in the voids of the pavement.

  • Wouldn't it just be cheaper and better to put normal concrete down and use a drainage system?

  • @MrDistrugator Sometimes it is cheaper, but conventional systmes do not clean the water very well, and they add to combined sewer overflows and flooding. Pervious concrete systems clean the stormwater and do not send it to the sewer, but back into the ground to recharge local aquifers. This can be very cost effective and often less expensive than conventional methods since no inlets or underground piping is required. The municipality saves money since it does not have to treat this water.

  • @grncrtr Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

I was wondering, what are the one off installation costs, and then recurrent maintenance costs like though? Also, what's its life-expectancy?

I can see the advantages to not having to use a sewer system, but dependent on cost it might be better spending to improve the sewers.

  • @MrDistrugator These systems, properly designed, installed and maintained can last as long as conventional concrete. All filters require cleaning, and this is a filter, hence the name FIltercrete. The frequency of cleaning is determined by design and site conditions, basically, this is determined by how much sediment the pervious is recieving and how large is your filter pervious concrete are is in relation to the imprevious area draining to it. Costs vary widely, for installation & cleaning.

  • So what happens when someones car leaks oil??? That goes straight through to the groundwater too i suppose??

I wouldnt use this if you paid for it to be honest. Im sure in a few years time there will be court cases against you ;)

  • @lovinit19791 The pervious concrete system removes heavy metals, hydrocarbons, and up to 95% of the pollution from the stormwater in the parking lot, including the oil from your car. That is one of its benefits. Microbes naturally present in soils, but not very robust will colonize the system and become more robust due to the constant flow of water, air and food (oil, grease & fertilizer) the heavy metals from your car are chemically bonded to the concrete, allowing clean water into the soil.

  • What happens in winter, when there is water in the concrete structure? Wouldn't it rip the concrete apart if it freezes?

  • NOT A BAD LOOKIN TRUCK..MOST MIXER'S ARE BUTT-UGLY..
