Get a crockpot like mine that you can program to switch to warm setting after a certain number of hours.
Most foods will keep for a few hours on warm setting just fine and be hot and ready when you get home.

Except I work 9 hour days? I guess I need to look for recipes that take about 8-9 hours then instead of 6.
