My copy of this video is dated 1993, which means that this was one of her very last productions she took part in before she died the same year.
Fiordiligi is a role she never recorded in studio. This production was presented in 1993 in Zürich (Switzerland) under the musical direction of Nicolaus Harnoncourt.

I truly think the role was beyond her powers -- but it's a valiant attempt by a non-coloratura, non dramatic, soprano who was probably already ill... It's always nice to hear that distinct, individual sound again!

WOW, Lucia Popp as Fiordiligi?! That eternally silvery voice! Even at this stage of her life and career, that voice remains ever so youthful. She might be the prototype of the youthful-sounding superb Fiordiligis, e.g., Miah Persson and Sally Matthews. After all, youthful-sounding doesn't necessarily mean they lack the requisite low notes. My only complaint is that the bits of coloratura in this piece is pretty sloppy here.
