@Acousticrichard One of those things, which I wouldn't dare try, was allegedly an out-of-control dive in a Met-modified Spit that tangled with a hurricane (the meteorological kind, not the Hawker kind). Initial reconstruction of the barometer records suggested a dive speed of M0.94, but alas it wasn't as fast as that when they eventually did the sums right. :( One wonders what would happen if you took the Spiteful wing off an Attacker and put the original elliptical planform on...

One of the things I want most in life is one of these, preferably a Mk. V or IX, just the thought of flying the Spitfire sends chills through me. I at least want to sit in one of these before I die...

If any of you have Microsoft Flight Simulator X, I HIGHLY recommend getting the RealAir Spitfire, it's incredible, the only inaccuracy is the fact that there's only 1 starting button instead of 2 (because you can't push 2 at the same time with the mouse).
