No I don't know why people only show off the desktop effects, they are cool but there is more than that... Linux come with tons of free software in the repository... video editors like kdenlive, video games, 3D software like Blender3D, HTML editors like BlueFish, Software for backing up files much like "Back In Time" it's like Mac's Time Machine but for Linux...
Most Linux users use both Windows and Linux... You can even install Windows, and Mac OS inside of Linux I have all three on my cube.

If Windows didn't have a complete 100% vendor lock-in monopoly on 3rd party software/hardware Linux would overthrow Microsoft in about a year. Mac would survive since they offer professional level proprietary software like Logic, Final Cut etc...

that's why some programmer uses both
linux and windows... and vista is just for dump user...

Of course its a fast OS. Windows is very fast too when it the only thing installed on it :)

i have finally decided that ubuntu is a time waster and not as good as windows vista. The only differences are that it has cool effects, and vista doesnt... Linux is just a dang anoying little OS! lol

my story of ubuntu:
I download and install 1st time (partitioned with vista) , love it.
Later,gets boring, but still have it.
In bed, decide linux is time wasting and not as good as windows, uninstall.
Next day, in school thinking i actually like ubuntu.
Get home, reinstall.
Enjoy for evening, then gets to this time.
I finally accept windows is a better OS for me, uninstall ubuntu AGAIN.
Ubuntu is good, but not as good as windows and so a time waster with effects. I decided to stay with vista

ubuntu...nice i duel boot with vista and this...i personaly like linux more but it cant hardley support much less install anything which is annoying but still a fun OS
