WILDLIFE FILES PRESENTS THE MALE BULLFINCH

This video was uploaded as Full HD, BLU-RAY Quality, in the hope, that YT HD will do justice for this beautiful little Bird.

Filmed at Little Paxton Pits Nature Reserve on the morning of March 8TH 2010.
Music for the Wildlife Files is (C) Rob Elliott (R) All Rights Reserved,

BULLFINCH.

The male is unmistakable with his bright pinkish-red breast and cheeks, grey back, black cap and tail, and bright white rump. The flash of the rump in flight and the sad call note are usually the first signs of bullfinches being present. They feed voraciously on the buds of various trees in spring and were once a 'pest' of fruit crops. Today, this bird is on the Amber list. Largely due to farming practices and of course, the all important, loss of habitat,

  • spotted one the otherday near kirby stokesley northeast , i was well chuffed with myself

  • I must be lucky as I have heard them sing several times here in the UK, more so earlier this year just before the breeding season.

  • @richardclaxtoncni Thank you richard

  • @3slimdog LOL the Female is a duller pinky colour, and no one really understands why they are not singing as much here in uk. I would love it if they would :)

  • That is one hungry chubby bullfinch bird. Are you sure that isn't a pregnant female? Don't understand why the bullfinch sings elsewhere but UK. One beautiful bird Phil. I put out my hummingbird feeders today. 4-2 Friday. I don't know if it is to early. I know last year i was late. Ready this time Phil. Thank You for the enjoyment.

  • Good film of one of my favourite birds

    Best wishes Richard
