We at Metropolitan Community Church of New York understand the example of Jesus to be one that calls us to social justice in this world, including feeding those who are hungry. In New York City, that need is a pressing one. According to the New York City Coalition Against the Hungry between 2003-2005, there were an estimated 1.2 million people, including 400,000 children, in New York City who did not have enough food to eat. Inspired by the social justice message of the Gospel, and the pressing need of the hungry in New York City, the food pantry began in 1985. The food pantry quickly became a member agency of the Food Bank for New York City
