So what is there now, a payless shoe store and a Macy's...despicable. Also notice the lack of vagrants in 1936.

Love how everyone just walks where ever the hell they want

Pre-Suburbia! -Nice video.

@jahfly - judging by the actions of all the other traffic except the large delivery van, the bicycle was probably following the street lights, and the van was doing something wrong. Look how it charges the entire group of pedestrians, then gets stuck. The bicyclist probably had the right of way, but had to stop because of the van.

150 miles of streetcar tracks existed in those days. Built without tax money. Regulated into oblivion. Now being rebuilt at about 50x the cost. :)
Awesome video! Love it.

Very cool. It's interesting how unregulated it is, cars, streetcar and pedestrians just go when they can. The cars push in and the pedestrians wait, the pedestrians surge and the cars stop. They all seem to respect each other. Nowadays, few people walk but pedestrians have the right of way and you don't dare get near the streetcar or it gives you the horn and bell!

There arent any MAX/street car lines going through this particular intersection today... I think there were a lot more of them back in those days

Also WOW! it's the original "light rail" now being rebuilt downtown Portland. Who "YouTubed" this in 1936 ????
WOW! Life before suburbs, malls and taco bells. Must have been nice

I see at the end that bicyclists acted like they owned the place back then too...
