Louis Kentner's LP recording of the complete Transcendental Studies was issued in 1969. As can be heard in his performances of 'Feux Follets' and 'Wilde Jagd', pianistically he can't compete with the very best techniques, but his sound is always warm and his artistry worth listening to.
Completely fascinating performances, if pretty badly recorded. I'd take Kentner over any of these fellows with ''the very best techniques''. In terms of artistry, to my mind only Bolet rivals Kentner in terms of imagination and musicianship, and especially the combination. Arrau does come close, but his interpretation is far less imaginative than these.

Very well played and passionate, but, yes, now I can understand better some of NoseHow's reservations...but the earlier Liszt recordings made in the 30s were a real revelation to me when I first heard them.
Very nice artwork indeed!

The Artwork on this video is perfect for the music....Louis Kenter used to be spoken of in hushed tones because of the hypnotic effect his playing had on his listeners. A Classical stylist who seems to have played the most difficult of pieces with ease ,which made him popular with audiences .
