What Exactly Is Wicca?

I recommend "Triumph of the Moon" by Ronald Hutton as a good book that explains the history of Wicca and what the beliefs are.

Many claim that Gardner created wicca, but all he did was take aspects of wicca and form his own tradition and that many traditions within wicca that we see today is based off his tradition, that is what I have gleaned from what I have read.What he did was draw from many sources and created his own, but I believe wicca/witchcraft do have ancient roots and was mainly the cunning folk traditions of the people around him at the time.

Excellent and very informative video! It is refreshing to come across your videos, as there are so many Youtube videos out there having to do with Wicca that are uninformative, idiosyncratic and opinionated. I want to read Hutton, it seems to have gotten a lot of buzz within certain Wiccan circles. I do believe that "Wicca is ancient" vs. "Wicca is modern" debate may be unending, although I agree that most now realize in its present form it is modern. But at the esoteric essence is ancient.

@NovelSunrise Yes I find it odd when people say they are "eclectic wiccan" because it seems to me that ALL wicca is eclectic! :)
