This is Vince and band on the northern California leg of the 'When I Call Your Name' Tour, in the Sacramento valley--still about 80 degrees at 8:30 PM!

You'll notice this recording has a unique vantage point--almost like the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival. Except here you get to see the summer fair rides and attendees milling about. Vince and I had hung out at two other shows before this; the band was very accomodating of me the whole time, and Vince was kind enough to allow me to plug my camcorder in at the side of the stage (batteries were low) and roam all over the place. At the start of this song, I was actually on stage with Vince and the boys! There was only one guy monitoring the soundboard, which was in a little U-haul trailer backed up to the side of the stage at Vince's left.

This was the song that really fired me up about Vince's solo career (I'd been listening to his collaborative work with others since the late '70s--good stuff) back in '84. It's from the Turn Me Loose Album, which, in its original form had only six or seven songs on it; additional tracks were added later by RCA when his career just took off in 1990.

Enjoy!

albert lee, delbert mcclinton, rockabilly, chicken pickin, telecaster terror

  • if there is a Telemaster today its probably brent mason

  • Albert Collins couldn't change Gills strings...

  • @Ronsings2you I agree Delbert's Current band is amazing

  • I was looking for Debert McCLinton's version of this song, but Cince does a great version too.

  • Okay, I'll be lookin for it.

  • @monster4josh You might want to check out Delbert's 1989 appearance on Austin City Limits before you say none of his bands were this "tightly-wound". As a matter of fact, his current band can play with the best of em'.

  • They are studio guys, arent they? They worked with Willie, Waylon and Chips Moman, I think....back in the '80s? I think Christopher was a co=writer on "Always on My Mind"

  • And isn't that the best part of music? We can have our favorites, but also know that someone else's favorite is just as good. When you listen to Delbert's CD version, the guitar players are Reggie Young, Chip Young and/or Dale Sellers, with John Christopher on acoustic.
