I live in Jackson Mississippi..it was known then(and still) as "chimneyville", because the union invaders left nothing standing but the stone-work chimneys. Sadly, our nation still doesn't mind a little "collateral damage" when it comes to innocent civilians..and don't bother denying it, I'm an infantry veteran of the ongoing Iraq war

Hey, my little sister lives in Jackson. My sympathies, for what you had to go through in the "dust bowl" Yes, even looking at old photographs one can easily see what was left in our States... a whole lot of nothing.

Yes perfect motivation to desert. It was psychological warfare. It worked. I would desert too. They to see if their families were still alive. If so if their wives had been raped, fields sowed with salt home burned etc. Most of the time that was all the case. Yes surrendered to end the terrorism on their people. It was only the responsible thing to do.

Everyone has been brainwashed in the states on myths and lies. I can NOT believe that (even with the brainwashing by the public schools, media, & Hollywood) that people are still STUPID enough to think the War was over Slavery. Obviously, they are blind and missing the Majority of the facts. Go purchase 'Myths of AMERICAN Slavery' by an author Kennedy. It is highly documented. DEO VINDICE!!

I think the confusion is arising from people confusing the slave states and free states. All the slave states didn't secede a good number of them still sided with the union. And slavery was just a mask. If somebody kept coming down as you as a devil and a heathen and somebody that needed to be killed and to top it off was making you pay all their taxes to boot, would you not want to at the very least get away from that person? the radical republicans are responsible for the war, not slavery.

According to the Census of 1860, there were 3,521,110 slaves living in the 11 states that would become the Confederate States of America, but there were only 429,401 slaves living in the states that would remain loyal to the Union. Do the math, over 8 times as many slaves lived in the south. Slaves made up the MAJORITY of the population in South Carolina and Mississippi.

No they weren't. The Republicans were adamantly opposed to the expansion of slavery (i.e. slavery in the territories and new slave states being added to the Union).

Wrong again. The Corwin amendment was to protect slavery in the states from being interfered with by the US government.

@coldh2ocarp In the North, the war was over secession. In the South, the war was over slavery. Read the Declaration of the Causes of Secession for the seceding states. For South Carolina, it was ALL about slavery, they never even mention taxes.

this vid is interesting, it's no secret that lincoln and his 'boys' had a hay day in the South. Yeah, if the South had won that war, those lincoln and his 'boys' whould have been swinging by the neck
