@NoJo1917 As a character, Captain Marvel is actually pretty old. He was created in the late 30's(39, I think) and was not originally a part of DC. Actually, there was a year(I think it was when the Capt.Marvel comic was first published) where the number of Capt.Marvel comics sold more than Superman comics. This rivalry of sorts has managed to carry on into DC comics.
