Farewell Sheldon Brown

Sheldon Brown has passed away. My best wishes and condolences go out to his family and friends. I never met him but I owed him a lot, as did everyone who ever referred to his amazing web site. He had a unique knowledge of esoteric areas of the body of knowledge of bicycles and bicycling.

His writings also showed him to be a man of great thoughtfulness. You never got the feeling you were just reading a technical manual. This world needs more people like Sheldon Brown; he'll be missed. There are thousands of bike mechanics everywhere who are sad that he's gone.

You're welcome, Dan. This was really bad news for us at our shopso I just ran outside and taped this because when I looked for something about Sheldon on YouTube most of what I saw was about the football player. (Not that he aint a cool dude)

A random encounter with Sheldon Brown's website was the single biggest inspiration for me to sell my car and get back on my bike back in 2001.

He taught me to appreciate old bikes & simple solutions and his articles made me feel, "I can do that!". He combined sharp wit with genuine humility and passion - a true role model in encouraging us to be our own role models. An amazing man.

His memory & example will burn in my heart and mind.

No, we're not. Sheldon brown was an icon in the cycling community, he made a website full of tips and tutorials, this is where I learned almost everything I know about bikes. I never met him, so really don't know a whole lot about him. But from what I hear he was a very kind man.

I've only been into biking a few months and I have referenced his site several times already. Looks to me like he was a legend of the cycling community, and an extremely selfless, thoughtful man. There are too few people like that in this world - seems now there is one less. :(
