any country could've pulled off what china did. china just took the next step and did it. they made a stadium just for hosting the olympics and the opening ceremony in less than 7 years. they gave a film director an unlimited amount of resources to complete a show. they got normal children to carry their nation's flag to its pole, and had one of them sing the nation's anthem (but now there's accusations of lip-syncing). it was a show that avoided politics and power to bring something beautiful.

Damn right we shot down their gay ass satellite, and we'll shoot another one of theirs too, because we got the biggest dick of all. That's right, I said it.

Ha ha ha... It doesn't matter how impressive the Chinese are at this "Dick Waving Contest" ...The US is still undeniably the number one at this game!
communism is awesome!

funny, if it's not your honest opinion. the opening ceremony was always nothing to be excited about, but for china it was something else. they spent 70 billion dollars preparing for the event and they wanted the opening to be awesome. to me the opening was less powerful, dramatic, and "dick waving contest" but instead more "wow" and "impressive." it's not a military march, it's a las vegas/radio city show, but much more extreme.
btw: there were 2008 drummers, 15,000 performers total.

I thought it was cool, I mean only a few opening ceremony only came close to its magnitude and choreography. I understand it wasnt a military march, but that much money and time, people and skill to pull something off of that scale is certainly showing you have bravado
