  • WOW;ask anyone under the age of 45-50 if they know what a 45rpm record is/was or the 45 record(also won;t know) player looks like!!!!!! Great video--bring back the "good ol days"

  • love it!

  • I remember this song because I actually liked the song on the flip side better. Now I cannot remember what was on the flip side.

  • @Neptunesque --yes, i too recall there being some controversy over this song when it was released, most likely because it was a woman singing it. very uncool for a woman to be that independant. i remember my mother trashing it when came on the radio..it just made me want to listen to it more--to this day it is probably my most favorite song. great vocals and song writing..

Mary, did you mean to type a reply? Nothing showed up other than my user ID.

  • And I must be on my way also.

  • Thanks for your reply as I can recall miscellaneous record bans over the years in limited areas such as "Lightnin' Strikes" in Boston and "The Ballad Of John & Yoko" that was exercised over most of the U.S. including NYC..

  • @Neptunesque

I don't remember that, but it sounds about right for that era - probably somewhere in the areas down south where they burned Beatles records after John Lennon's comments in 66! Great song, one of those songs that brings me back to being a kid in Detroit, discovering all the incredible new music being played on the radio. For some reason songs with a very melancholy feel always appealed to me - this, Have You Seen Her, Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again, Ode to Billy Joe,...

  • Wow, what a record to reminisce of a better time with!

Among other TV shows I'm sure, I recall Miss Garnett performing it in '64 on Red Skelton's Tuesday night variety program.

My late sister told me that, despite being a hit ,certain radio markets wouldn't play it because it suggested a couple living together without being married.

Does anyone else remember this record being banned anywhere?

    Thanks.
