What ya need is an 'erector' lens. Otherwise it is an astronomical telescope, for which purpose it don't matter seeing stuff upside down. I think Lol!

to make it right side up you use a diverging lens as the eyepiece (the small lens)
The lensen don't need to be the same. On the contrary, the objective must be as large as posible, with a big focal length while the eyepiece must be the oposite. This answers your point about zoom, the power of the scope is given by Fob/Foc, where Fob is focal length of the objective and Foc is the focal length of the eyepiece, the resoling power (the "fine detail" you can see) is given by objective diameter
