D.W.'s Library Card: D.W. learns how to write her name to get her first library card. She also learns about borrowing books.

Arthur's Big Hit: Arthur punches D.W. on her arm for tossing his model airplane (that he worked on for a long time) out the window and mistaking it for a real flying plane, but ends up feeling what D.W. feels when Binky hits him on a dare.

NOTICE: "Arthur's Big Hit" was the first episode of Arthur to be rated TV-Y7 in the United States because it features Arthur hitting D.W. on her arm. However, it continues to air today on most PBS stations.

I'm really glad to see that everyone agrees that D.W. needs to be punished WAY more. Yes hitting her was wrong and Arthur needed to be punished, but D.W. got off scot free when she was being a little brat in the first place. To be honest, I would have punched her too. She doesn't care about anyone but herself, and at 5 years old children start to learn empathy for other people.

But really, the gazillion comments about D.W. deserved it and she should've been punished and all that... Helluuu! Arthur's parents said they were gonna deal with her, "but what [Arthur] did was wrong TOO." They see his side and if they're anything like my parents(and it seems like it) D.W. was probably punished a little harder. I once decked my big brother for taking my jade eagle. 1 week for me, 2 for him

Just to clarify: by "others like it", I mean "other episodes like this one". There's obviously a whole bunch of people who dislike this ep.

@willisnomiko I'm glad you agree with me. And I'm going to be honest: my friend wasn't REALLY trying to change my opinion. But it felt like he was, because he WAS more-or-less trying to justify my problem with this episode, and others like it.

@ThomasNCookieMonster I see Arthur's side. He shouldn't have hit DW, but she is a brat and she specifically did what he told her not to do. The episode emphasized not hitting and try verbalizing by really playing down to the viewers just how bratty DW was. It could have just as easily been an episode of respect the property of others or respect the wishes of others using DW.
