@Hamster3107 YOU RE 100% RIGHT - THE SONG is definitely N O T ABOUT GOD - even the word "God" never appears in it...
I can't claim to know what Nick meant, but to me it signifies the idea that christians use god to hide their heads in the sand regarding the realities of this world. They have no clue about taking responsibility or accepting the atrocities of life because they think god will handle everything for them. Think about it...it's about everything christians abohor. "We've bred all our kittens white so we can see them in the night". It's dripping with sarcasm.
