  • Yeah, now we're going to go scrounging around the earth looking for MOAR OIL when we shouldn't even be using this much with the technology we would have. If they'd developed it.

  • If the major auto companies hadn't "killed" the electric car their sales wouldn't have been devastated by rising gas prices. They'd be in good shape today instead of watching Priuses sell like hotcakes as they scramble to catch up and beg Washington for bailouts. The over-all economy would have been in much better shape today.

  • ....... and then the batteries die...

  • so chrysler got a hold of lotus' europa and made it accelerate faster than that silly collector's item(challenger)? neat!

  • I think it'll be interesting to see how well this new EV they're taking to the Le Mans will perform... If nothing else, it'll give us a good benchmark of the current state of performance EV's vs. performance ICE race cars. One thing I look forward to is seeing how exactly they plan on conquering the refueling issue...

  • When it comes to racing, EV's definitely perform better on the 0-60 and 1/4 mile, but there's a lot more to racing than how fast you cover 1/4 of a mile. There are many races where top speed and longevity come into play and EV's are just not there yet. Maybe give it another 5-10 years of development and we'll probably see EV's outperforming ICE's across the board. Until then, though I'll enjoy the sound of my V6 and the smell of gas in the morning. ^^ I'm not about to give up my 300zx just yet..

  • EV's still have some time to go before they will truly surpass ICE's in terms of practicality.

Much of the current issues lie in the limitations of battery technology and the fact that it's just a lot easier to find gas at the moment than it is to find a place to plug your car in for a charge. Not everyone lives in a house with a garage where they can plug in their car overnight and so far as I know, not too many gas stations have outlets (though this will probably change in the near future).

  • I really like to see more Electric Cars, they are clean, economic and in this case more beautiful than the ugly red car.

But to no more expensive part to broke or replace, no oil or Gas, only batteries and Wheels change and go for ever!

Oops maybe is because of this no company like to sell a pure electric car!

  • Youre kidding yourself.

Just because electronics control fuel consumption more accurately than a Carby and points doesn't make it much better than the 15% energy efficient at the wheels ICEs were 100 years ago, the combustion cycle is still the same. They are the motoring equivalent of an incandescent light bulb.

The truth is an ICE is not much more energy efficient than a steam engine, while electric motors can reach 98% energy efficiency, end of story

  • agreed!
