I still don't get what the octodome is used for. I thought it was to give kind of grid shadow/light on the model :s

very informative thanks, hope you could include a before and after shot of the octabank, ps the position of the light was higher up with the grid on octabank than when it was without it... it would have been a better comparison if it was on the same place
