The US Land of the Free? Or Land of the Prisons?

The Pew Report on States new report on prisons in the United States should cause some concern.

Federal prisons were estimated to hold 176,268 sentenced inmates as of Sept. 30, 2006.
16,507for violent offenses,
10,015 inmates for property crimes
54,336 were for public-order including
93,751 were incarcerated for drug offenses.

Yes, and the are almost all serial killers are WHITE MALE! Equally scary! I say keep the violent offenders locked up and let the people with non-violent crimes serve lighter sentences. How about treatment instead of hard time for drugs! Depending of course on the specifics of the case, but throwing a person in long term prison for possession of a small amount of drugs is INSANE. But we should Free the West Memphis Three! If you don't already know about them look it up!

Lood at the prison today. Majority are the ones that born in their own backyard the americans. In other countries they would congitate twice before they commit any crime. I guaranteed you that. Free food and logging that is why they like going back to prison.

My sister was a public defender. She used to work in a rural area south of St. Louis. For the most part all of her clients were white, and they also committed some fairly heinous crimes. Repeat offenders are the norm, Crystal Meth is out of control, rape, child molestation, murder, you name it, she saw it.  Plenty of white people commit crime. Oh and Pot should be legal, my whole point!

And it is Americans, capital A. Next congitate is not the correct spelling of any word. Next example, I guaranteed you (past tense) Should be present tense. I guarantee you that. If you want to sound smart, learn how to write!!

Good point; Land of the Free. Hard to imagine we can jail so many people. Total prison population about the same as the state of Rhode Island. Ouch!

Thanks, I have seen some people on youtube think that it is so wonderful that we imprison so many of our people! WTF? Aren't we supposed to be hated for our "freedom"?!?

Prisons are big business here in the United States of Corporations. If you have the money, buy a politician and have them toughen laws.. even against non-violent offenders..and then you have a full prison and can expand. Isn't this the best damn democracy money can buy?!?

ahahaha yes, pot should be legal. if alchohol is legal then so should pot.alchohol actually makes people behave violently, pot on the other hand makes you hpy,euphoric and paranoid of any sort of negativities that could harm you. and its not about sounding smart its about getting your message across clearly, which spelling of course does help.

prison is supposed to be rehabilitation for criminals, not amplify their criminal behaviour,which is exactly what it does.
