The Fisher Space Pen is a ballpoint pen that will write upside down, underwater, over grease, and in extreme cold and hot temperatures. This pen has an estimated shelf life of 100 years.

After rigorous testing, in 1967, NASA selected the Fisher Space Pen for use on the Apollo Missions. They are now used on all manned space flights - American and Russian.

  • Couldn't you just use a pencil?

  • @sim18893 Not in space.

  • @vat19com but you can use a pen...just a normal one :)

  • @Geoff900 You can't actually. Regular pens are gravity fed and will not write for extended lengths of time upside down or in zero gravity.

  • @vat19com You can actually pens just work normal in space, they spent millions of dollars on something which works anyway.

They are novelty pens proof is here: home. howstuffworks. com/pen5.htm

  • @Geoff900 Actually, the article calls them a "technological novelty", which basically means "striking, new technology." Context is key here. The article you posted then goes on to explain why the pen works in space and why it is preferred over standard ballpoints. Also, neither NASA nor the Federal government spent a single cent in the development of Space Pen, as it was designed by the privately owned and operated Fisher Pen Company.

  • @GothicaKenny NASA didn't spend a single cent on the development of the Space Pen. Google is your friend.

  • @tdstudd1996 It's amazing that you managed to scroll past the top comments, where this is obviously debunked, to make this comment.
