It's obvious Steve was singing to a backing tape . But to be fair he didnt have much choice . His voice was in bad shape from over touring . It was either this or not tour

WHO THE FUCK CARES ABOUT BACKING TAPES OR PRO TOOLS!they fucking toured him to death and thats that!get over it.he was the best replacement for perry and still is.journey also grew alot with him.besides theres not a band out there that does not use pro tools every now and then.i liked the guy and he had a awesome stage presence.

Just a word for viewers out there- if you think that most bands today are playing "totally live", then you're nuts! The public wants to hear album quality live, and artists more often than not give them what they want. Go see Def Leppard or Aerosmith some time- their vocals are more canned than Dinty Moore Stew!
