To immediately assign such things as alien knowledge is insulting to the intelligence and ingenuity of our ancestors.
I imagine that one thousand years from now, our computers and cars will be labeled as alien knowledge as well.

Seeing as it's one of a kind and no others have been discovered, I think it's alien knowledge, no disrespect meant. Plus in a 1000 yrs time, there would be a footprint of where 'said' knowledge came from, not some random mechanics that weren't around in the said time.......

Perhaps the winch handle is what may have been originally, tho a fishing reel type winch handle would impart continuous motion. I am sure Mr Wright has thought of this.
