@news89 That is Television by Design's Walls and Balls package, originally made for KUSA. It is rather legendary. Many stations used it nationwide. WBAY commissioned TVbD for their next package as well.

John Daly from "News 13" hosted a show called "Real TV" in the late-90s. It was around the same time of the FOX "World's Wildest Videos" shows in a pre-viral video era.

@newscaster13 We have a winner! Frankly it doesn't work as well with the Iowa state flag (which is actually a cool flag). And everything after that is nothing similar and nowhere near as good.

That KWWL open look exactly like the KCNC News 4 open from 1992 thru 1995, when Channel 4 in Denver was an NBC affiliate. Now, it's a CBS O&O station

That KWWL open is definitely 1993, and probably later in the year. That first bit (with the state flag and moving yellow bar) has some significant inspiration from...well, who can take a stab?
