They are the digital-age equivalent of crop circles -- mysterious patterns appearing on the Australian Bureau of Meteorology's national radar system without any explanation. UFOs, perhaps?

And the random images, described as red stars, rings of fire and white doughnuts, are sending online conspiracy Web sites into meltdown. The anomalies first began on January 15 when an "iced doughnut" appeared over Kalgoorlie in Western Australia.Satellite imagery showed there was no cloud over the area at the time to explain the unusual phenomenon, but farmers' online comments claimed it was "unusually hot" all day. It was followed by a bizarre red star over Broome on January 22 and a sinister spiral burst over Melbourne described by amateur radar buffs as the Ring Of Fire Fault.

The Bureau, which did not respond to repeated requests for comment, has acknowledged the anomalies on its popular Web site. It has posted a disclaimer above the national loop feed putting the images down to "occasional interference to the radar data."

"If you notice any circular patterns or straight lines originating from the center of the radar location, this is due to occasional interference to the radar data. The Bureau is currently investigating ways to reduce these interferences." the disclaimer said.

Conspiracy Web sites, however, have lit up with dozens of breathless theories behind the strange anomalies from alien involvement, secret military testing to government weather modification. One theory gaining traction online is the belief the U.S. military has expanded its High Frequency Active Auroral Research Program.

Based at a remote research station in Alaska, the HAARP project involves shooting extremely high frequency radar bursts into the upper reaches of the atmosphere to see what happens after particles of the ionosphere are temporarily excited.

  • It is a military researchh project, and it can indeed alter the weather. I doubt this has to do with it though. And no, they aren't all around the world, there are only two, Alaska, and Norway

  • It's actually spelled HAARP, but it only operates at 60% of 3Gw and the radio wave is only directed at the ionosphere. There is no heat produced by HAARP. For those of you saying to educate your kids, please educate yourselves. You can tour the HAARP facility in Alaska during the summer. HAARP is a research project, not a military project. So yes, please educate yourselves!!!

  • @MrBillytree I've never heard of it making clouds, but with heat HARRP can move clouds around !!!

  • @desertphilip you aren't funny, in case you were trying to be. Or... is that your serious side. Pitiful.

  • oh i seen this image on some website whatever you do dont watch the video because it a trick it actully fucking your eyes and mind up

  • harp chiemtrails ???related there all over the world to chiemtrails.??and every day?

  • Answer >>> HAARP,look it up...

  • @TheNwoRhemity Dust should look like a weather cloud but slightly more solid. That pattern looks highly ordered. I don't think Harp is designed to fake global warming to cause carbon taxes, because the US government is the one stifling climate change debates world wide. The US wants to pump out as much free carbon as possible. The ELF passes through water, and the human brain works on this level. However radar towers do not detect ELF. I think this could be a UFO of some type.
