IMPORTANT!! READ PLEASE!
As you can see on the top left corner, this video was made in Minecraft 1.5_01. Even tho Notch stated powered rails should be more powerful in 1.6, this trick became less efficient. Back then the cart collected more energy for some reason. If you want to do this trick, you just have to use more delays. Check my other video how to make long delays without using redstone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVognmg04zs
As example, in 1.6 i needed 16 delayers (6.4 seconds) to climb 55 blocks.
-----------------------------------------

This video will show you how to climb a giant hill with only 4 powered rails.
You can charge the cart with momentum (as showed in this video), and when you release the cart from its "booster", the cart can travel a very long distance while still cruising along at the speed limit until all the surplus momentum gets used and the cart slows down.

NOTE: The redstone circuit can be much shorter. I did it that way so i could be clear for everyone.

DOWNLOAD THE MAP (works for 1.6):

Put it in C:\Users\*YOURNAME*\AppData\Roaming\.minecraft\saves

  • when I try this the rail under the deactivated torch goes to the hill when the torch is off, and stays in the loop when the torch is on, so I basically inverted it somehow. I know I did the same things as you did though, so I found that weird but I tried to fix it with another redstone torch, but for some reason the repeaters don't turn off the torch, so it never goes into loop formation (if that made any sense). Can anyone tell me what's going on?

  • @veenzo0 You can try connecting the purple line to the other side of the RS nor latch. This is basically the same as inverting it.

  • thats just sad bro

  • is this still effective in 1.9?

  • This works... at first. Then after a few uses it suddenly becomes a lot less effective. Has anyone figured out why this is?

  • I've had different luck as well. Sometimes I can climb 45+ with 16 repeaters, now it goes barely 20 with 19-20 repeaters. This is on 1.8.1 SMP server with only a couple of players. This ain't very dependable.

  • well the redstone circuit works fine for me. the problem is: i'm not able to climb more than about 10 blocks...then my momentum is over and i go back down again...
