On the menu today: A quick review of the book "God Help Me: How to Grow in Prayer" by Jim Beckman. The book can be purchased from The Catholic Company at http://catholiccompany.com.
Thanks for the recommendation, Jeff. I've heard Jim Beckman speak several times before at the Franciscan University of Steubenville and he is a wonderful speaker, so I imagine his writing to be good as well.
The best books on prayer are by the saints. St. Teresa of Avila's Interior Castle is one of the best. Also, Father Garrigou-Lagrange's The Three Conversions (TAN Publishers) is a 'must have'. It basically condenses St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross (two doctors of the Church) levels down to three levels. The author is correct, that there are different forms of prayer, but all of them are part of growing in holiness.

(meditative prayer cannot be left out in place of mere discoursive prayer, for example).
It was a good review, but I'd like to hear more about books out there by time-tested theologians and saints.
