An Asian Koel (aka Rainbird) singing his song just outside our bedroom window. At the time I made this video, I'd been told that this was a myna bird, but have since discovered otherwise.

  • i live in a used to be rather quiet hdb district until a bunch of keols showed up and started this horrible noise. i was told this is a mating call so i am hoping that it will go back to being quiet in a few weeks. the screeching is driving me nuts.

  • We've been back in the U.S. for 7 months now, so I listened to this again, and oh the memories! Don't count on him quieting down anytime soon. I don't think he's being pleasured, I think he's LOOKING for pleasure! Especially at sunrise and sunset. Of course, if you walk down Orchard Road, you can hear them all day long. Especially near the Thai Embassy. Perhaps you could call someone in the gov to have him "relocated"?

  • Are these really mynah's? has anyone seen one rather then heard one?

  • No, I've since found out that they are koels a cuckoo bird. In India they call them rainbirds because they do a lot of carrying on before it rains.

  • lmfao

  • That building you see in the background is being jack-hammered to death. Jack-hammers are a hell of a lot worse as an alarm clock than this damn bird. LOL!

  • @atheistblossom It is their mating call -their way to try and call a female Koel close.

  • STOP WAKING ME UP EVERYDAY AT 4 AM DAMNIT!

  • bastards. There are definitely seasonal but their 5:30am calls do last a few months. Im in Pasir Ris and they just started in the past week.

  • @ausymick Mating call.

  • @chuakimchuan Actually I like their calsl, though yeah, it can be quite distracting especially when it decides to call at inappropriate times; the Koels in my neighbourhood here once went calling deep into the night and into the early morning for some reason. Luckily they don't do that much now lately; the worst they had done recently was in the early morning (5-6 AM), and that was earlier this year.

  • He is being pleasured.

  • I've noticed it's only the male that makes this incessant noise. Does anyone know what it's about? Is he looking for a mate? Being territorial?
