Brought to you by DieselBike.net. Here we see some footage of a Diesel Electric Motorcyle which made an appearance at the 2005 Hamm Diesel Motorcycle rally. The Small diesel engine powers the generator which in turn powers two 24v motors which drive the rear wheel. As you can se, it goes well although I don't think the dog quite appreciated how much wwork had gone into building this machine!

  • Perhaps there is a sensor that detects the extra current required and thus revs the engine to provide it? I could only see rectifier wiring. The builder doesn't speak my lingo so not sure about its finer points of operation. Interesting machine though.

  • Alternators have %35 power loss at producing electricity while classic wet-clutch transmissions have about %6 loss - But in heavy traffic and stop-start situations, a pretty high capacitor could collect the electricity and deploy to transmission motors when needed

  • This bike works on the same principle of a locamotive. At idle the gen developes little current. Give it more throttle and as the voltage comes up so does the speed. The engine is NOT constant RPM.

  • The extra weight is the problem. The lack of gears is great though and drops weight too. A constant velocity engine uses less fuel as its more efficient that way.

  • most haul trucks these days use the same thing. apparently really efficient.

this is one loud ass bike though lol

  • why does the engine accelerate when you put more juice to the rear wheels powered by the electric motors?

  • this is the best of two worlds, so why havent honda and well the rest of the manufactorers seen it!!!?????
