The state of New York was the first to pass tougher gun regulations in the wake of the Newton, Connecticut shooting that left 26 people dead. But those who work in the weapons industry are anxious about their future. Al Jazeera's Cath Turner reports from the town of Ilion, in upstate New York, home to a Remington manufacturing plant, where workers wonder if new regulations will hurt their livelihoods.

Stupid politicians, like criminals will obey the law and wont find ways to get the weapons they need.

Does a ban on Assualt Rifles really jeopardize this industry? I mean, aren't they still going to sell guns regardless? They just won't be selling assault rifles.

"Assault rifles" are banned under the 1986 law. But I have a right to buy whatever arm I have the right to bear. They sell "semi-automatic" to civilians who should also have the right to bear.

They sell "assault rifles/weapons" (Select fire) to police and the military. They sell "military" like (One pull of trigger = 1 shoot) firearms to the public. NY law makes most if not all modern hunting and self defence guns illegal

It was a schizo.American health system is different, responsability for schizos lies with the family, that is wrong, to leave mental cases treatment to family. For a urbanised country like US i think its very important to take care of metal cases, cos its your own shit, its people with weak minds, bodies, weak genes, from stress, food, from workin mothers, from that shit urban decay, its the price of success. Some will fail. You cant leave them behind.

the jobs argument is weak, because it can be used to defend anything and everything.

So you want nuclear disarmament? All the tchnicians and nuclear engineers would be out of work. You want to lock up less non-violent first-time drug offenders? Think about the jobs in the prison industry. You want more hybrid cars? That would shift jobs overseas because US car companies dont make them. You want to prevent tigers and rhinos from going extinct? the poor poachers would starve.

    It always works.

The bans will do nothing to help. AR style weapons account for less than 1% of the crimes. You are not more safe, your kids are not more safe. Ignorance is bliss. The power of the media propaganda is unbelievable. America is make more drones millions with two legs. In the years to come when nothing gets better please remember this day.

Remington Arms provided millions of arms for American servicemen durng the past two world wars and has equipped millions of hunters and sport shooters for many generations who never comitted any crimes with their products, so saying that their employees' jobs depend on the killing of kids is manifestly untrue. Living in one of the most anti-gun states in the Union has simply put the workers in a dark mood, notwithstanding the fact that sales are up elsewhere in America.

I totally agree that this is a pretty biased clip. Especially the connection between fear for your job and economic troubles just screams propaganda, independent on what side of the argument you are on. This has zero relevant information on the debate. But I'm not sure why they are doing this, do they have any connection?

Most of the clips from Al Jazeera are very informative though.
