It's so cool to watch these. JB is up there with Elvis, the Beatles, and the mighty Led Zeppelin. Once you get past those guys, there's not a whole lot left. Every note of music and every syllable sung or spoken is loaded with nuclear power! Still got a great collection of 45 vinyls of most of Brown's singles. James Brown is the sole owner of GROOVE! Being a drummer, I could personally bang out one of his grooves for about three weeks, and be in heaven.
in october i was working at the apollo with the percy sledge orchestra and we were the house band this was recorded sometime in october of 67 because i turned 18 whiel i was there, oct 26 1968 my birthday.
It's amazing. I agree completely with you. I love how he called out Bernard (the bassist) for missing a cue. My dad had this song on the original album which was "I Can't Stand Myself When You Touch Me" and I fell in love with that song back then.
Check out the studio version of this, I have it on the "Star Time" collection CD. He does some classic interplay with Maceo and all the rest, probably my favorite studio track of his ever. This is damn good, too...man, they played fast live.
maceo's solo is CRAZY on this one.....double time everything!

I never even knew this existed. I have the Vol.2 Live @ The Apollo from 1968 remastered CD as well as the vinyl and this is nowhere to b found.
THIS SHIGGITY ABSOLUTELY COOKS!!!!!!!!!
Damn...listen as he spidit-dits out "lemme tell ya bout dis lil bit" at like 90mph (as the band seemingly plays even faser than that!!!
The drums are like some sort of drum and bugle corp w/their precision.
