My grandparents were having a joint 80th birthday party and my grandmother asked me to write a song for her. Specifically a song where I start singing by myself ad everybody sings along on the chorus. So I got a lot of information from my dad and the day before the party I wrote this song. Since my grandmother is Japanese and they met in Japan we call them Ojisan and Obasan (grandfather and grandmother). All the lyrics are based on their actual life story.
The Oji and Obasan song:
Little Aiko Ishikawa born on April fool's day
1930, Koriyama, Japan
Feisty and rebellious, everybody would say "That Aiko's way too much for any young man"
But then across the ocean over in the states there was born
A fine young man who she was destined to meet
Well he was every bit the character that she was and more
And what the future held was ever sweet
Arthur Allyn joined the army at 17, he'd cross the world before he'd find his Asian queen
The Oji and Obasan song
Everybody better sing along
To the Oji and Obasan song
If you're not singing then you're doing it wrong
It's the Oji and Obasan song
She may be tiny but incredibly strong
So you better sing along, to the Oji and Obasan song
Well little Aiko would sneak out and then go dancing at night
So untraditional and wild at heart
When Arthur Allyn PFC was out on leave there one night
He swaggered up and said "Hi, My name is Art"
They fell in love but had to keep their rendez-vous on the sly
He was the Romeo to her Juliet
But they both knew that if their love was ever going to survive
Her father's blessing they'd have to get
Though Art impressed her father with his studious looks
He was really only reading comic books
Chorus
Well to take a long story and make it not quite as long
I'll try to cram a rich life into one short song
They got married and following the story arc
They had 3 crazy kids, Paul, Dori and Marc,
Then their kids had kids and I have to relate
That this super generation was exceptionally great
Now the kids of the kids have kids of their own
Yesterday they were babies, and today they're all grown
The only age that matters is the one in your heart
The two bigeest kids today are still Aiko and Art
If living life like them is what we've all got in store
Then let's live it up and give me 80 more!
Chorus
Sing it from the heart and you can't go wrong
She says "You better sing or I ring your head like a gong!"
It's the Oji and Obasan song
LOVE IT!
