BTW I think that this song is Freudian, in the sense that the lost lover is one's opposite sex parent. Not that we want to have sex with OSPs but that in order to form romantic relationships we must regard two different types of love that do not quite overlap, as the same.
To really force the point, the second chorus might become (from father to daughter, or from mother to son) I love you, I need you, but I ain't never going to want you, but don't be sad, two out of three aint bad.
