Update: Kandi Burruss speaks of heartbreak after fiance's death

October 5, 2009: Grieving KANDI BURRUSS is struggling to come to grips with the death of her fiance - because she had so many bottled-up feelings to share with her partner.

The R and B singer/songwriter had put her wedding plans with Ashley 'AJ' Jewell on hold as they tried to work out a series of relationship problems.

But former Xscape Burruss is devastated she and her lover will never have a chance to resolve their differences and marry, after he was killed in a bar brawl on Friday (02Oct09).

She says, 'I had spoken to AJ two hours before I got the call that he was in the hospital. Never in a thousand years did I think it was going to be the last time I heard his voice. He was taken way too soon. There are so many things that I should have said to him, wanted to say to him, but now it's too late.

'I am devastated by the loss of AJ. His death comes on the heels of the death of my beloved Uncle Ralph and with both of them gone, my heart is heavy with grief.

'I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of my family and friends - and that means my Twitter and Facebook friends as well - for the beautiful words of encouragement, prayers, and the sweet condolences. I make it through these difficult days because of you.'

Fredrick Richardson has been charged with voluntary manslaughter after Jewell died of massive head injuries in an altercation in the parking lot of The Body Tap Club in Atlanta, Georgia.

I don't support government censorship either. If you want people to have certain values and to be respectful it has to start at home. But people can and should criticize certain rappers and certain record labels for peddling the stuff they do. Freedom of speech doesn't mean that any one with a filthy mouth is guaranteed a recording contract.

People can blame the rappers and the rap music. Ok, fair enough. But if people stopped buying the music, the big labels would stop backing it and producing it.

Not just that, parents need to do better. I am not big on censorship, but something has to happen to stop this senseless violence.

Today, they do not know what it means to be proud to be black. There is far too much slave mentality going on and has been for quite some time. When women allow themselves to be called out of their names and think its okay, when strong, black mean think that selling dope and being in and out of jail is okay then we have become no less than slaves again. That is so far from the point here! Let us look to the appropriate reason for this horrible tragedy; more than likely what the gentlemen inferred "somebody probably stepped on somebody's shoe" is the cause. It's so tragic. He sure seemed to be a nice man and she just wrote the book on class. Anybody who would have a respectful conversation with her mom no matter what the outcome ON TV... please... need I say more?
