This is an official video from the Eaton/Road Ranger websit showing how they reccomend you drive a 13 and/or 18 speed gearbox.

    (dozerman8114) the only time on the clutch is to start off I'm old school I can't shift

    with a clutch and if I go from 6 over to 7 d I make my split in neutral I have done this all my life and also I to have moved HE and run doubles up to 165,000lbs

    so I'm right with you guys it suck if your old school and it helps if your new just

    out of school LOL

  • @jbdixs you got it right there. i had a prick of a time when i went for my license because i had to double every gear. "im" not saying this is how it should be done, this is how eaton would prefer you to do it. and i understand the reasoning. if you have the clutch depressed when you are engaging a gear you dont have the full weight of the driveline/engine torque being applied to the gears incorrectly if you screw up a shift and we all do it occasionally.

  • @jbdixs true about the sucking if your old school bit. it really comes down to what you have been taught. if you were taught to float the gears then thats how you drive. if you were taught to double clutch then thats how you drive and why your left leg is twice the size of your right. i just get irritated by people like dozerman8114 saying its wrong when this is how the manufacturer would like you to do it. it isnt wrong its just not how they do it.

  • There is only,ONE way to shift, with no clutch, uless sitting still. And on the other hand,  between a 13 and 18 , one of them splits the top 4--- the other spits ALL of them. Haul real equipment and learn, grossing over 100,000 plus

  • @dozerman8114 like i said a know it all. this video is presented by eaton, the company who makes the road ranger gearbox so i reckon they have a pretty fair idea what they are talking about. they dont say you must operate in this fashion but they prefer you to do it this way as it reduces damage potential.

    oh and by the way, im from australia and im only in a single now but used to run b doubles grossing around the 145,000+ mark so dont try to tell me how to drive.

  • @rond361 dead right there mate. you can go to what would be 6th in a 15 spd with an 18 but its an out of sequence gear.

  • He said the 13 speed has the same pattern as the 10 speed, it does not. The 13 and 18 speed both have the same pattern as the 9 speed. If it was the same as a 10 speed, 5th and 5th over would be in the same position as Low gear. The 15 speed has the same pattern as the 10 speed with overdrive on the high range gears.
