A follow-up to our latest video showing Sea Harrier departure to a mission - this time is the return back to the HMS Hermes carrier for a vertical landing - which is requires good practice and understanding of the flight envelope at hover. Fully 3D/6DOF/TrackIR virtual cockpit is shown also with the view "looking around the cockpit bars" at about 0:40s of video.

Things still missing/not developed yet:
- HUD should be in Pilot Interpreted Approach (PIA mode) providing recovery guidance, which then switches to V/STOL mode at 0.1 miles of the ship

- no jet wash or any related particle effects caused by vectored thrust jet blast over the carrier's deck

- no proper landing gear suspension anim displayed by the 3D model aircraft in external view

- aircraft carrier is still absolutely stable; in final product we plan to simulate it's pitching and rolling deck, specially in rough seas/bad weather (typical in the South Atlantic).

- no radio communication between Sea Harrier and HMS Hermes control tower.

  • So are you marketing this when it gets released or is it free? cuz this is badass. The last modern sim Ive heard of was Blackshark- and that was a Helo game. The hud and cockpit looks like its made from the game "seven-G". Seven G is a free game, but theyre still producing it. Well, either way- I just wanna say that you guys have to make sure that there are intense missions, like having immersing gameplay like hearing the troops on the ground and their desperate pleas for airsupport.

  • @24Rorschach We know and appreciate Seven G. Jet Thunder and Seven G are different, but completely proprietary new flight sim engines, and right now, both have their own strenghts and weaknesses. Would be just perfect if both teams were able to join forces in some level (since both products are aimed to realistic naval operations in a similar time frame) and so it would result in a very complete flight sim technology and it would maximize the chances for the products to see the light of day.

  • @depatta oh yeah we will probably be marketing it through Steam although some retail publishers showed interest.

  • Not bad but you landed in the wrong spot :)

  • @MigEater22 Yup. :) I've actually crashed a couple times during the making of this video. Harrier is a notoriously difficult aircraft to fly and the best pilots are selected to fly it.

  • What game is that?

  • @ginoReyes46 The game is called "Jet Thunder".

  • hwat game is that?

  • funny thing is that real harriers (at least AV-8s) can only hover for 90 secs because of coolant capacity

  • good to see the hermes, my dad served on the hms hermes when he was in the navy in the seventies

  • all the approach is carried out on the port side of the ship, downwind, crosswind and into wind leg.ending up hovering to the port side of ship, till u stabalize and get a reference, before side sliping on and landing

  • Nice vid. Have u modelled ground effect? U can see it in my simulator video

  • The game looks great - I'm assuimg that detail on the sea is yet to be improved?

  • Terrifying.

  • whats the game?

  • @depatta Sweet, you have my full support. We need more devs like you guys, my best memories of gaming were from the old days, when flightsims were the big trend (Jane's, DID, etc) and games actually took skill playing. I know I don't have any right to tell you guys what to do, but the biggest downfall of most flightsims were that they had a perfect sim at its core, but failed to deliver in other aspects like gameplay, missions, presentation, etc.
