Although I know of you're dislike for ancient period games (and there are plenty) please don't let the theme of the game ruin your reaction to the mechanics. I mean, if it was themed trains (which are OH SO POPULAR) ruin your critique.
I'm really trying to say that the ancient theme fit for these types of games. If a sci-fi or train theme were to be added on, it would seem awkward.
