In response to that 2 year old comment saying the old man was trying to steal KITT: I don't see how anyone with half a brain can come to that conclusion. More likely, he was attempting a con in which he purposely damages a car so that he could then talk the person into paying him to repair it.
If you were trying to steal a car, you certainly wouldn't be trying to poke a hole in the tire, now would you?

KITT does need to use gas because it make go faster (over 200 mph!)
KITT does has very good mileage! (200 MPG!)
KITT does not have eletric motor without gas use it yet.
