On December 12, 2009 Walter Edwards and Kathleen Egan took to the Wildwood Trail in Portland Oregon to run the length of it from Newberry road to the Portland Zoo. In total the run ended up being 33 miles (after going off course about 2 miles), with 3300' total elevation gain. It took us 5 hours and 36 minutes to cover the distance. Temperature was a cool 29 degrees and the ground was frozen making for a nice dry trail. It is truly an amazing trail right in the middle of the city!

  • @misterlentil....Thanks!! We started with about 70 ounces of water each. There were some places to refill water along the route. Also we ran it in mid-December so the temps were very cool and water needs low. As far as food...we probably carried a couple bars, 7 or 8 gels, and some sport beans.

  • Stoked! I recently discovered this trail on a trip to Portlandia and promptly bought a map! Planning on running the whole thing solo next week. I'd love a tip or two about the difficulty (the distance is not a prob, I've been running 50's and 100's for a few years) and really need to know where i can refill on water. I'll be starting out with about 70 ounces as well. scottgravatt@yahoo.com. THANKS!

  • Its shocking to me. All the perfect mountain biking that lies within Washington Park for begineers, experts, and anywhere in between. Out of almost 30 miles of trail that the Park offers not a single mile allows mountain bikes. Really hikers? Do you need that much damn space? I was on the trail for no more than 10 minutes and i got yelled at about 5 times and an old lady tried to chase me off the trail. Anyone who says Portland is bike friendly has clearly never been to Washington Park!

  • Great job, Walter and Kathleen! This one's definitely on my list now! How much water and food did you take with you for this?

  • Wow this is really inspirational for me! i started walking for fitness a few weeks ago and I'm currently walking 10 miles at about 14 min/mile. I hope to someday work up to trail running. You guys are obviously very well conditioned. Great job!

  • Thanks Walter and Kathleen, I'm fond of running the wildwood trail too in France !
