"3 D"

"Urban Modernity" is the core statement of the Strellson Sportswear collection Spring/Summer 2012.

Big cities are cultural melting pots, because that is where trends begin and catch on. So clothing adapts to urban conditions: technical, organised, functional, modern and international -- a new realism is born.

In Summer 2012 the focus is on cuts and finishes. This makes everything tidier, cleaner and more deliberate. Nothing is left to chance any longer.

In the Spring/Summer collection a strong 80s influence is evident. Elements of layering, grunge and punk are combined and contrasted with those of American sportswear. New technical methods of cutting create three-dimensional effects. There is also an interplay of opposites, as asymmetry and breaks determine the overall picture. Geometric elements are broken up with organic elements. Narrow and oversized contours are combined.

Silhouette:
The interplay of the silhouettes is important -- everything is flowing, soft and looks unstructured: narrow jeans/chinos with oversized cardigans and parkas, loosely fitting and tapered jeans/chinos/bermudas with sexy biker jackets, slim sports jackets or tightly fitting shirts. Layering -- the layered look of the 80s is making a comeback.

Styling
Basically, used and vintage looks are having a revival and form a contrast to clean elements. The right finish, the right kind of wash or the right dye are therefore essential to the right look.

Fabrics & Pattern & Finish
The three-dimensional effects are achieved by means of cuts, structures and also dyes and printing techniques.
In summer 2012 the fabrics for outerwear are masculine, robust, but also light as a feather. Technical materials or mixtures of polyester and polyamide -- but also viscose or modal -- become more important. Memory yarns bring movement into the surface, as does the introduction of linen or ramie. Raised or sunken weave patterns or knitted patterns, new material mixtures and differing printing techniques in one pattern create a three-dimensional look. In addition to plain colours, yarn-dyes, bi-colours, mixtures, 2-tones and checks play an important part. Clever washes and dyes contrast with clean finishes. Coatings of wax, oil, PU or pigment are indispensable for a reduced vintage look. Clean looks contrast with new cold or dip-dyes.

Prints
Pictures by the up-and-coming Spanish painter and photographer Marcelo Viquez, inspired by naive painting and comic strips, are used as prints on T-shirts. In this way Strellson combines art and fashion, as previously with Mel Ramos.

Colours
A new cool, bright basic palette of bright white, limestone grey, vapour blue, phantom grey, moonstruck beige, dusty olive, major brown, navy blue and black provides the perfect stage for next summer's clear, strong contrasting colours: Limoges blue, royal blue, Fern and Black Forest green, red orange and yellow. Indigo blue permeates the whole collection.
